He was born in Kansas City and lived there until moving with his family to Colorado Springs when he was 12 years old. He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder where he received a bachelor’s degree in history and political science in 1972; later obtaining an MBA from Western State College of Law in 1998 where he also taught classes during his time as an adjunct professor there. After law school graduation John began practicing law for approximately 20 years before retiring last year due to health issues related to diabetes mellitus type 2 – an autoimmune disease that attacks insulin production within cells throughout the body resulting in hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) which can lead to ketoacidosis if left untreated long enough;
